Consumer 2020

In 2020 Deloitte published a report to illustrate how consumers are adopting a more sustainable lifestyle and highlighting the barriers that get in the way of changing behaviours. Unsurprisingly, "avoiding single-use plastics is the most common way consumers demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, with 61% saying they have cut back. A focus on seasonality (49%) and buying local goods (45%) are the next biggest areas of focus". The Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all". The Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) introduced various disclosure-related requirements for financial market participants and financial advisors at entity, service and product level. It aims to provide more transparency on sustainability within the financial markets in a standardised way, thus preventing greenwashing and ensuring comparability. The majority of the new disclosure obligations will be applicable as of 10 March 2021. A comprehensive report published by pwc clarifies the implications and requirements.
